To celebrate its 100th anniversary, the Zurich-based traditional company Spitzbarth travelled through space and time to mint rare Crypto Gold Nuggets in the digital Alps. The things that dreams are made of.
This year, Swiss company Spitzbarth Juwelier is celebrating its 100th anniversary. To mark the occasion, the Zurich-based goldsmith and silversmith asked itself how it wanted to evolve over the next 100 years. Recognising the digital trend, they focussed on the next generation of jewellery and collectible items: non-fungible tokens, or NFTs for short, involving unique digital assets or simply artwork on the blockchain. Spitzbarth Juwelier took it upon themselves to create 100 Crypto Gold Nuggets and mint them on the Ethereum blockchain, as the technical jargon is known.
Each of the 100 Crypto Gold Nuggets was individually designed by artist iBulla and assigned different characteristics. This means that every item in the collection has its own character and is truly unique.
According to Marco Spitzbarth, the idea of using blockchain technology lies in the parallels between the two industries. Just like with a jeweller, a blockchain relies primarily on trust. Spitzbarth products are inherently non-fungible, i.e. non-replaceable, and have been cherished as unique, prized possessions and collectible items since 1921. Whether its simply an individually engraved signet ring made from pink gold or a digital token with a unique signature:
Spitzbarth Juwelier transfers the digital artwork directly to a wallet or designated Token Card. The limited production of 100 Crypto Gold Nuggets on the Ethereum Mainnet has already made these digital works of art a valuable collector’s item.
