Supply Chains 4.0 Strategy Day

The last two years have been pushing companies to rethink long-established strategies and there is not much time left to come up with new concepts. Covid and Ukraine have been amplifiers, root causes are global imbalances and – paradoxically – successful lean practices. With new (economic and potentially military) conflicts knocking at the door, it’s not easy to predict how future supply chains will be structured. Companies should adapt to “worst case scenarios” to enable resilient supply chains – more flexible and decentralized, yet efficient.

Why is Digitalization key to make this necessary transformation a success? AI, IoT, AR, Adaptive Manufacturing and Blockchain just really started to re-shape supply chain strategies. The convergence of physical and digital processes through IoT and AI creates a transformation from linear supply chains towards digitally enabled supply networks – connected, intelligent, scalable, adaptable and fast. Blockchain can increase trust and transparency in complex and partly automated business relationships. 4.0 manufacturing technologies set the path for decentralization and regionalization. To make this transformation a success of physical data and relationships need to be mirrored in a Digital Twin of the supply chains.
